Back in the field in Orlando: ACMA National 2021 Conference

It is good to be back in person. After a year filled with Zoom calls, FaceTime huddles, and Teams meetings, hitting the road to Florida came as a welcome relief.

One of my favorite events of the year, the American Case Management Association’s national conference, serves as a pillar of information-sharing, relationship-building, and an all-around good time for the case management community. Vendors, speakers, and staff joined 550+ live and virtual attendees for three days of conversation and collaboration under the Florida sun (and rain).

ACMA National Conference 2021After a comparatively solitary year, I enjoyed reconnecting with familiar faces and new friends. For all of you who stopped by our booth, thank you – and for those who attended our Thursday morning session (video to be posted soon), I hope you found it informative. The session, “Connecting the UR Process to the Patient Through Artificial Intelligence,” detailed what today’s case manager needs to know about AI – the what, the why, the how – and included first-hand testimony from my friend and colleague Kelly Layton on how she successfully implemented CORTEX at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center in 2017. I discussed the changing nature of utilization review as it relates to technology and Kelly shared her perspective on creating success, stability and comfort with AI among her staff. As we both often say, it’s so incredibly valuable as a tool to put the clinician back in the driver’s seat – gone are the days of box checking and EMR diving.

ACMA National Conference Win the WheelsThe world is changing. I’m thankful to be able to bring technology and tools to my fellow case management professionals – you do amazing work and deserve support and solutions tailored to you. To the friends made in Orlando, don’t be a stranger! Here’s to many more conferences and many more conversations.
