Driving Standardization & Consistency Across UR & Care Management with Personalized Support & Dedicated Expertise

As Executive Director of Care Management at West Tennessee Healthcare, Debbie Ashworth oversees Utilization Review (UR) and Case Management teams across multiple facilities. Debbie needed to ensure more consistency in these complex processes, reducing variability in the information sent to health plans. To address this, West Tennessee Healthcare partnered with Xsolis, implementing the AI-driven Dragonfly platform in July 2022. This has allowed Debbie’s team to standardize processes, eliminate variability, and arrive at the best decisions for patients more quickly and accurately.

After three years of working with Xsolis, Debbie credits the close relationship with their dedicated Xsolis Account Team as key to the successful partnership between the two parties. Debbie notes that Xsolis provides a level of support unlike any other vendors, including onsite quarterly business reviews with their dedicated account team to review performance and identify opportunities. “Xsolis provides dedicated, personalized support that has been crucial to our successful adoption of Xsolis’ platform and services,” says Debbie. “They’re extremely responsive and closely partner with us on comprehensive education and support. They’re more than just a support team – they’re like family.”

Streamlining Processes, Automating Workflows, & Strengthening Payer Alignment

With six facilities live on Xsolis’ AI-driven Dragonfly platform and one more joining by the end by 2026, West Tennessee Healthcare has fully embraced Xsolis’ efficiency-driving, time-saving, and outcome-improving suite of solutions. Since implementing Dragonfly Utilize in July 2022 to streamline UR and case management, West Tennessee has expanded the relationship. They now connect with payers on Dragonfly and use Precision UM with a national payer to automate inpatient determinations that have historically been agreed upon between the two parties. West Tennessee also leverages Xsolis’ Best in KLAS Physician Advisory Services to supplement their internal PA team.

Since implementing Dragonfly Utilize in July 2022, Debbie’s team has streamlined their UR and case management workflows and eliminated variability in their processes, driving significant value.

In addition to increasing staff efficiency, Dragonfly Utilize has significantly strengthened West Tennessee’s payer relationships. The natural next step was working with their payers to increase alignment and reduce subjectivity in concurrent authorization case reviews using Xsolis’ Care Level Score™ (CLS™). The CLS provides a numerical calculation that gauges the likelihood of appropriate patient status, which is powered by Xsolis’ real-time predictive analytics and machine learning.

West Tennessee is connected with two large national payers through the Xsolis platform and uses Precision UM with one payer to accelerate accurate patient status determinations. “My team’s improved communication with payers has been transformative, enabling true collaboration where it didn’t exist before,” says Debbie. This payer connectivity has resulted in 1,306 hours of time savings from July 2023 to March 2025. The time savings and increased efficiencies have allowed the team to sharpen their focus on providing more personalized, high-quality patient care.

“Dragonfly Navigate provides a seamless workflow that complements our clinical expertise and supports more proactive discharge planning. This will give my teams the bandwidth to better prioritize and address the unique needs of each individual patient.”

Leveraging Predictive Analytics to Optimize Length of Stay & Discharge Planning

After working with Xsolis to address challenges with clinician and physician advisor consistency and efficiency across complex workflows, improve health plan engagement, and ensure appropriate revenue capture, Debbie’s team has shifted their focus to length of stay management. In February 2024, West Tennessee implemented Xsolis’ Dragonfly Navigate AI solution to leverage AI-driven predictions directly in their EMR to help with length of stay management and discharge planning. The predictive analytics include the target GMLOS, predicted discharge date, the likelihood of discharge within 24 hours, and the predictive discharge date. With Navigate AI, Debbie’s team has identified the best ways to display the analytics in their EMR so they can appropriately leverage the predictions to fit their workflows.

Navigate AI allows Debbie’s team to better prioritize patients and tasks using the predictive analytics provided, while also improving discharge documentation and decreasing overall length of stay. Based on the success that West Tennessee has experienced with the Navigate AI solution, they agreed to pilot the Navigate workflow tool. According to Debbie, “Dragonfly Navigate provides a seamless workflow that complements our clinical expertise and supports more proactive discharge planning.  This will give my teams the bandwidth to better prioritize and address the unique needs of each individual patient.”

Apart from looking forward to the results West Tennessee will experience with Dragonfly Navigate, Debbie and her team want to continue to capitalize on the efficiencies Dragonfly provides across UR, case management, physician advisor, and length of stay management workflows. This includes expanding the Xsolis relationship to a seventh West Tennessee facility, which will allow them to standardize best practices and drive consistent outcomes across the health system. As West Tennessee continues its partnership with Xsolis, Debbie is confident they will see sustained improvements in staff productivity and efficiency, patient throughput, and optimized health plan relationships.
