With more than 30 years of healthcare operations and IT leadership experience across the payer, hospital, physician, and pharmacy sectors, Joan Butters co-founded Xsolis in 2013 as an AI-first company built to reduce administrative waste by enabling collaboration between healthcare providers and payers. She served as CEO for 13 years before becoming Chief Client Officer in October 2026.
In her new role, Joan brings the same passion that drove the company’s founding to the people Xsolis serves. She is a tireless advocate for clients, working side by side with health system and health plan leaders to make sure the technology Xsolis builds translates into measurable outcomes for their organizations and the patients they care for.
Before founding Xsolis, Joan was Vice President and General Manager of Strategy and Emerging Solutions at Optum, where she identified and developed new technology solutions that generated more than $225M annually and served organizations across the healthcare ecosystem.
Joan began her healthcare career at AIM Healthcare as Vice President of Data Mining Technologies. As a key member of the senior leadership team, she helped form and grow AIM Healthcare, a leader in cost containment solutions serving payers, hospitals, and providers.
The Nashville Business Journal named Joan the Most Admired CEO in 2021. In 2025, she was named an EY Entrepreneur of the Year Southeast award winner, joining a global community of honorees that includes well-known leaders such as Jeff Bezos and Michael Dell. Joan’s leadership has also been reflected in company honors, including Modern Healthcare’s Best in Business in Artificial Intelligence (2024), Newsweek’s AI Impact Awards (2025), Nashville Technology Council’s 2025 Tech Company of the Year, and five years of Best in KLAS for Physician Advisory Services, most recently in 2026.
