Hero Award Honorees are recognized as outstanding professionals who have faced a life challenge yet continue to deliver exemplary service for their patients and families

NASHVILLE, Tenn., April 30, 2024 – The American Case Management Association (ACMA) and Xsolis, announced today, the recipients of the 2024 Case Management Hero Award. Kyle Galyean, Liane Sigl, and Robin Simpson were honored at a ceremony held during the ACMA 2024 National Conference in Nashville, Tenn., on April 21. Established in 2021, the ACMA Case Management Hero Award recognizes outstanding professionals who have faced a life challenge yet continue to deliver exemplary service for their patients and families.

Kyle Galyean, LMSW, is director of social services at University Medical Center, and resides in Lubbock, Texas, with his wife. Kyle was nominated by a colleague for his outstanding support of coworkers and their patients, even volunteering personal time to help renovate a patient’s home in one example. Despite facing adversity – ongoing immunotherapy and multiple surgeries as he fights his second cancer diagnosis, a journey further challenged with an unreliable vehicle – Kyle continued to show up professionally, advocating as a leader for his team and in delivering high-quality patient care.

Liane Sigl, BSN, is RN case manager for Mercy San Juan Medical Center with Dignity Health in Carmichael, Calif., and is also a wife and mother to young twins. When diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, she continued to serve her patients, team, and community as a consummate professional, even as she underwent chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries as part of her treatment. Liane’s nominator highlighted her strong resilience and leadership across all facets – supporting new staff, serving patients and their families, all while mothering young children of her own.

Robin Simpson, LMSW, CCM, was lead emergency center social work case manager at Harris Health System in Houston, Texas. Robin died tragically, leaving behind a 9-year-old daughter. Dubbed “Ms. Social Work” by her family, Robin had a heart for serving her patients, many of whom experienced homelessness, and made a lasting, positive impression on those she encountered. “Robin will be remembered for her service to those in need, her advocacy for patients and families, and her sincere desire to help others,” said ACMA CEO and founder Greg Cunningham.

“Individuals don’t always reveal what may be going on in their personal lives or what they’re carrying as a burden, continuing to show up for their patients and their families,” said Cunningham. “The Case Management Hero Award was established out of the desire to recognize that while our case management professionals are always helping other people, they sometimes need help themselves.”

ACMA and award sponsor, Xsolis, have provided various means of recognition and financial assistance to help support Hero Award recipients over the past four years – from childcare expenses and educational stipends to home mortgage payment support. Previous recipients include Patrick Gilbert from Blue Cross Blue Shield (Kansas City, Mo.,) and Jacqueline Pokuaa from Dallas Methodist Medical Center in 2023; Monica “Tisha” Ouzts from Self Regional Healthcare (Greenwood, South Carolina) in 2022; Jamie Clardy from Lexington Medical Center (Columbia, South Carolina) and Linda Kuitert from Memorial Hermann (Houston, Texas) in 2021.
